Mission Story:

Elder Ichikawa doesn't remember this, but the first week after he arrived as a green missionary in Akita, Elder Ichikawa did a door approach. The gentleman who answered the door was quite inebriated. The man proceeded to explain in "hidoi tohokuben" that he was too drunk to talk, and to come back some other time. Elder Ichikawa just stood there staring at him until I finally tugged at his sleeve and we took our leave. When we got back to the street, Elder Ichikawa said, "Sappari wakaranakatta!" I found myself having to translate what was said to a Japanese Elder. It highlighted how different the dialect could be in our part of Japan.
